Arts District Gets Busy
The Station North Arts & Entertainment District is looking considerably
better now, thanks to a mid-week cleanup organized by local artists
along with a handful of community groups. Together, they filled
five 30-foot dumpsters and 9 trucks with debris, and removed over
200 tires from vacant lots and alleys.
All day November 13th, well over 100 folks fanned out and tackled nearly
2 dozen target areas on the East side of the district, removing
tall weeds and re-boarding the most derelict properties where possible.
The "Massive Cleanup" is one of several recently undertaken
in the Arts District, with previous outings offering hotdogs for
participating neighborhood youth.
This week's was noteworthy for it's scale. Co-sponsors included the Jones
Falls Watershed Association, New Greenmount West Community Association,
the Greater Homewood Community Association, New Second Missionary
Baptist Church, Greenmount West CDC, and an slew of volunteers from
the National Civilian Conservation Corps. Our own Bureau of Solid
Waste was out to join them on a day's notice to help with dumpsters
and a bulldozer. Much thanks to all involved, Baltimore is better
for it.
